NIEC2012 Theme: Entrepreneurs in motion
Entrepreneurship takes more than merely creating a business. It is a dynamic process of vision, change and creation. Entrepreneurship requires the application of energy and passion towards achieving and implementing new ideas as well as finding creative solutions in new and existing ventures. So what differentiates a business owner from an entrepreneur?
An essential ingredient for an entrepreneur is the willingness to take (calculated) risks in terms of time, career and equity. A special set of fundamental skills are paramount. Such as the ability to form an effective venture team and to gather needed resources. Entrepreneurs have peripheral vision and possess the ability to recognize opportunity where others only see chaos, contradiction and confusion. To seek opportunity, take risks beyond security and having the tenacity to push an idea through to reality is what permeates the entrepreneurial perspective.
This process is never stagnant or complacent. “Doing the same thing, expecting different results” was never a suited strategy. While some of the first well known entrepreneurial pioneers were on a crusade mission, fighting for a cause, today it is also very much about leadership and continual innovation. Movement is key. So is taking action. The gap between what can be imagined and what can be accomplished has never been smaller. Collective leaders are more available than ever to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurial innovators.
As John M. Keynes once said: ” The greatest difficulty in the world is not for people to accept new ideas, but to make them forget about the old ones”. Welcome to NIEC 2012!
